There are specific requirements in Florida for legally purchasing and owning a firearm. If the steps are not followed concisely, you may be charged with unlawful possession of that firearm. The penalty for conviction under this charge may result in a misdemeanor or a felony and include heavy fines and jail time. Felons may not carry firearms in Florida. If you have been charged with a weapons charge already, and you are arrested again for owning an illegal weapon, you may be looking at up to three (3) years in confinement.

Non-residents are also able to be charged under gun control laws.
