If you or a loved one has been charged with a drug crime, call Joe Caimano and start building a strong protection today. Our law firm is backed by years of experience with drug trafficking cases with many resulting in dismissals or reduced charges and/or sentences.
Drug trafficking is an international black market consisting of the cultivation, distribution, manufacture or sale of illegal controlled substances. Drug trafficking operate similarly to other underground markets.
Some explicit drugs that are included in drug trafficking may include, but are not limited to:
Florida Drug Trafficking Penalties | Imprisonment | Fine Amount | |
---|---|---|---|
Trafficking in Cannabis | |||
25 to 200 pounds / 300 to 2000 plants | 3 Years | $25,000 | |
2,000 to 10,000 pounds / plants | 7 Years | $50,000 | |
Greater than 10,000 pounds / plants | 15 years | $200,000 | |
Trafficking in Cocaine | |||
28 to 200 grams | 3 Years | $50,000 | |
200 to 400 grams | 7 Years | $100,000 | |
400 grams to 150 kilograms | 15 Years | $250,000 | |
Trafficking in Narcotics (Heroin / Morphine) | |||
4 to 14 grams | 3 years | $50,000 | |
14 to 28 grams | 7 years | $100,000 | |
28 grams to 30 kilograms | 15 years | $250,000 |
Generally, the more dangerous the drug and the larger quantity involved, the more severe the penalty will be. For example, a person caught selling at least five hundred (500) grams, but less than five (5) kilograms of cocaine will spend a minimum of five (5) years in prison and receive a fine of up to $2 million for a first offense.
Penalties may double with the second offense to up to ten (10) years in prison and up to $4 million in fines. When elevated quantities of drugs are involved, the punishment of incarceration goes up as well as the fines. You may spend up to twenty (20) years in penitentiary and be likely to spend up to $8 million in fines. Penalties are much more severe if an “enterprise” is involved or if fatality or an injury is involved with the arrest.
Due to the intense consequences of these charges and the harsh penalties they carry, it is critical to contact a criminal defense attorney, such as Joe Caimano as soon as possible after a charge.
